Tax Day Letter from Ben to the Boston GlobePosted: 2010-04-15 14:03:00 Letter to the Editor
My parents, refugees from Nazi Germany, came to England in 1937 and found safe haven. The gratitude my father felt towards his new country was expressed powerfully once a year on tax day. He told me that he paid every last penny that was owed, never looking for a loop-hole or evasion. Tax day in our home was treated as almost a holy day of thanks.
James Carroll captures that spirit most beautifully, speaking to the best in all of us.
Yours etc
