Five European reviewers have announced their choice of the best Gustav Mahler recordings:

1st Prize in the Category "New Recordings" is Telarc's recording of Mahler's 5th Symphony with Benjamin Zander and the Philharmonia Orchestra.

The Prize is named Toblacher Komponierhäuschen, in honor of the location where Mahler composed during his Toblachian vacations. The recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 9 with Bruno Walter and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, recorded in 1938 in Vienna, was awarded for its historical significance and excellence.
Other nominees were Michael Tilson Thomas (Nr. 6, also SACD) and Riccardo Chailly (Nr. 2).
For his long contribution to Mahler's Renaissance, Maestro Claudio Abbado was recognized for his lifetime achievement.
The jury consisted of Attila Csampai, Norbert Christen and Michael Stegemann (Germany), Remy Franck (Luxemburg), and Ludwig Flink (Austria).
